The label installation works just like the installation of AIR Archive files for aeronautical data. Repair workorders arriving before July 3rd are fulfilled regularly. From July 20th to July 31st, the repair workshop is closed. You can submit questions online as well. Please subscribe to our service alerts newsletter below. All required documents including the correct return address (we have two locations) are automatically generated. For FLARM devices and displays manufactured by other manufacturers, please contact the manufacturer for the latest manuals. Configure your assigned aircraft address, type, and privacy needs. Repeat this whenever required, but at least annually. Install the GPS antenna with an unobstructed view of the sky in all flight attitudes and at least 30 cm (1 ft) away from any other antenna and from a compass. Radio signals require an unobstructed line of sight and must be vertically polarized; thus avoid conducting materials (metal, carbon) in any direction you expect FLARM to be effective. Keep your antennas at least 30 cm (1 ft) away from any other antenna, and without direct contact to your canopy. Do not use splitters for FLARM radio signals. Read the document “FTD-041 Application Note FLARM Antenna Installation” for further guidance on antennas. Also, don’t shorten antenna cables and don’t bend them below specified minimum radius. Don’t apply excessive force when mounting connectors as they may not fit (connector type, gender, polarity). Replace defective cables, connectors and antennas. The first two characters (the letter “F” and a number) is the model number of your device. E.g. if your serial number is F61234, the model number is F6. It can be operated anywhere in any aircraft, is fully autonomous and very easy to install. PowerFLARM detects and is detected by any FLARM-compatible device. It shows exact altitude and relative distance. It warns you in the right moment to look out and identify possibly dangerous traffic. The included obstacle database comprises more obstacles than average databases, even if they are certified. We specialise in avionics, instruments and systems for the general aviation, recreational flying and gliding communities. It handles all radio communication and data processing as well as collision risk calculations. The device is mounted behind the panel together with other avionics boxes. It’s connected to a FLARM display which is mounted in the panel. Code licensed under MIT License. Glider pilots can see at a glance who is climbing well nearby, where the team partner is or who is in the aircraft next to you. Butterfly Displays gives you situational awareness that you've never experienced before. Basically, Butterfly Displays require very little handling. A rotary knob serves as the main input device. The knob is intentionally rather large, its haptics are appealing, and it is easy to operate even with gloves or in turbulence. Besides having a turning function, the knob can also be pushed like a button. Arrows symbolize aircrafts flying straight-in, blue circles symbolize turning gliders. The knob is used to select traffic participants on the screen (green marking). The page on the selected aircraft also provides detailed information such as the difference in altitude, climb rates, identification and distance. http://bassbasement.org/userfiles/creative-playdock-z500-manual.xml
If a selected traffic participant has an entry in FlarmNet, pushing the turning knob will disply the details. Should another aircraft get dangerously close, the Butterfly Displays will reliably warn you.In cases where team partners are flying closely and could become dangerous, these are also indicated in the warning as additional information. Should a whole group of aircraft come dangerously close, the number of collision opponents is indicated in the warning screen. This facilitates differentiating between tactically important traffic (climbing aircrafts) and others at all times. To facilitate the identification of aircrafts, the direction of circling is also indicated. Butterfly Displays evaluate several parameters of the traffic received. Amongst other things, they calculate exact climb rates for each aircraft received and filter these continuously. This provides reliable information on thermal quality in the surroundings of circling aircrafts. This allows you to keep an eye on the team partner's position, even in situations with a high volume of traffic (in competitions prior to take-off). Especially in team flying, Butterfly Displays can provide great assistance, for example in situations in which the team partner is in the blind spot. It can be installed in portrait or landscape mode. Javascript doit etre active dans votre navigateur pour utiliser toutes les fonctionnalites de ce site. The GPS must provide the position in NMEA-format. The data must be as pure as possible, excess data (air data, Flarm, hardware-settings etc.) must be filtered out. Basically the GPRMS-sentence is all that is required for this purpose, all other data may create confusion or poor communication between GPS and transponder. In this chapter we discuss connecting GPS-sources to the EASA-certififed mode S transponders available for gliders and other light aircraft. The VT01 transponder is set by default to a low GPS signal integrity, so no changes are required. https://www.interactivelearnings.com/forum/selenium-using-c/topic/20383/electronic-dartboard-owners-manual
We recommend connecting the GND from the GPS and the transponder. De port setup indicates that port 12 is to be used for NMEA input for ADS-B OUT. In this connector, pin 3 should be used for the ADS-B OUT data. For GPS input in standard NMEA format (GPRMC) teh baudrate should be 4800bps. Baudrates can be set to 4800, 9600 or 19200 bps at setup. Also make sure to select the proper GPS System Integrity Level value. During setup you can indicate that an ADS-B receiver is installed. Only select YES if you have a certified ADS-B receiver (so in most cases the selectiong should be NO ). We recommend connecting the GND from the GPS and the transponder. P9 is the connector needed to connect a GPS (pic 15). If a GPS receiver is used pin 2 (GPS-Enable) should be connected to the aircraft DC supply ground. The RX-port of the transponder can be found on pin 9 of the P9-connector and pin 8 should be grounded. GPS receiver power supply may be connected to pin 6 if its current consumption does not exceed 1A. The Becker transponders are capable to operate with GPS receivers which provide GPGGA and GPVTG NMEA-sentences at a baudrate of 4800 bps. Did you miss your activation email ? With the LXFV connected straight to the ozFlarm, it works. With the CN MFD connected straight to the ozFlarm, it works. With the LXFV and CN MFD connected, it breaks. --The LXFV works upon power up, the moment the 'f' appears on the CN MFD, the connection is lost between the ozFlarm and the LXFV. Though the CN MFD connection remains with the ozFlarm.I have dual serial outputs on my power flarm so I don't need a splitter, but I will be learning a little about flarmview. I'll update if I discover anything relevant here. The 12V 3V and -power is passed through the adapter. It can be switched the Tx cables of the connected devices. Thus, there is no longer any difference in the access permission between the two connected devices. http://www.btrcontrols.com/images/canon-speedlite-430ex-manual-free.pdf
A manual switch is not necessary, the adapter passes all data sent between the two PDAs to the GPS device on. If no Flarm for a power supply connected to 3V, the variant must be used with 12V power supply. A PDA and a Flarm additional ad to a Flarm: Both devices can remotely control the Flarm, the PDA also read out and declare. A manual switch is not necessary, the adapter passes all data sent between the two PDAs to the Flarm on. Two Flarm additional ads on one Flarm: Both devices can remotely control the Flarm. A manual switch is not necessary, the adapter passes all data sent to the Flarm on. I hope that helps Looking forward to your response. Currently at the QLD State Gliding Champs.Just plugged my LXFV into a club gliders Flarm, it works. So the wiring is correct; and my LXFV is functional. Regards, WPP I have done this many times - swapping the PowerFLARM cable between the LXNAV display and the CNd. My current configuration has the PowerFLARM connected to the LXNAV display via the RJ cable and the DSUB PowerFLARM connects to power and the CNd (see cable connection drawing at CN web site). Once the flarm has a fix ( when the display shows gliders or transmit and receive are green) I powered on my CN mfd. The problem was also that my Flarm display locked up. Now I can power them all at the same time. Before starting the CN mfd the Flarm needs to be ready, otherwhise the CN will not detect the Flarm. This beheviour is known. That's how my own glider is set up. It's looking for flarm communicating at 19.2 k. If it doesn't find a flarm, it won't look again (sorry about this). So: correct flarmcfg.txt configuration, power up flarm first, then CN. CN2 differs in the following ways: a) it polls the serial ports all the time, so it will recover from power cycles, and will discover a flarm when ever it starts transmitting, etc.Hope this helps. But for most devices, I think all you really need is the correct baud rate so comm gets established.
I think most 3rd party guys do as we do: send a mode configuration sentence on the serial port. I generated a manual FLARM CONFIG from the website (attached at - Adam.txt), but it looks different to what Chris Hostettler and Evens file. So I've edited Chris's with your info Evan (attached as - edited.txt), can you cast your eye over it for me. Which one should I use. Thanks again for the help, WPP. There is no reason to have a 500mhz processor aboard if the software running on it is still 5 to 10 years old and now it is spending most of its time in an idle state. Overlays are giving you the basic info you will always need to know during the flight. The bottom bar has 5 values that can change by touching the screen, rotating 9 stripes of values (three of them configurable). With LK8000 you always know that you can take off with NO configuration at all. Sometimes it's hard enough to look at the screen itself! Actually, you can use LK8000 even blindfolded. Want to bet? And the Best Alternate function is working in the background, looking around and calculating terrain obstacles, wind, glide ratio, mac cready, anything useful not only to guess but actually to predict the very best landing opportunity in case of troubles. And time to time, without bothering you too much, during the flight you will listen to a soft sound and a message will tell you that your best alternate has just changed. Support for Live, Ghost and Zombie traffic, fully configurable. Selection of individual traffic for more details. If a target is 5km ahead, with a lower altitude, you may be nevertheless much lower when you get there. So the Sight page is showing you what is your real situation, compared to the target's position, estimated for current wind and MC. You can choose what to see, up to the desired zoom level. At any zoom level you are granted to have always the best possible moving map experience, with no rivals even among cxpensive commercial products. You can load 4000 waypoints with all the names of the mountains in the Alps, for example, and still have a perfect readable moving map. A simple tone will tell you that it is time to lever the aircraft for better centering. No need to look at the screen! It works wonderfully on those chinese devices that come only with CE installed, but also on commercial flight devices based on CE such as Bendix King's AV8R, Naviter's Oudie. The Ipad connects to the butterfly connect network with correct key. This can be seen in ipad setup wifi. Next time I try it works or not. Skydemon works fine with normal Go Flying. Tried new ipad but no different.Any ideas? The website also recommends using a Blue-Tooth GPS receiver with the iPad and then turning the Airplane Flight mode to ON. This turns off the internal GPS and the Blue-Tooth, 3G and Wi-Fi. To use your Power Flarm with the Butterfly Connect, manually go into settings and switch on your Wi-Fi. The GPS is completely separate from the cellular radio, so you don’t even have to have an active data plan for the GPS to work. And while the on-board GPS does work with all the popular aviation apps, it was made for ground use and is not always reliable in the air. It has a tendency to drop offline, especially when switching between apps or sleeping the screen. It’s not necessarily a question of accuracy, but of reliability.
And: When I put the iPad in Airplane Mode before flight, I cannot get the internal GPS to work, and the Dual Bluetooth GPS or Garmin GLO GPS will not connect to the iPad. What’s wrong? Airplane Mode disables all wireless connection points on the iPad, including the internal GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and cellular data. If you’re planning on using the iPad’s internal GPS, you need to leave Airplane Mode OFF since this disables the internal GPS. If you’re using an external GPS, go ahead and turn Airplane Mode ON, but then manually go back in to the settings and turn on either Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to allow your third-party accessory to connect. This will ensure all other non-essential wireless radios are turned off, which will increase battery life and reduce the possibility of interference with panel-mount avionics. I hope this works for you! Paul Skydemon uses the Flarm GPS and the problem is that the wifi connection from the Butterfly Connect Unit to the Skydemon App keeps dropping out but the Ipad still shows a good wifi connection. Could anyone with a Power Flarm working on an Ipad help me with the correct Flarm configuration. Any other idears? Derek My understanding is that the Power Flarm's GPS antenna is connected to a GPS receiver inside the PowerFlarm Core box which then uses this GPS positional information (together with the pressure sensor giving barometric altitude information) to predict your short-term future flight path and it continuously transmits this to nearby aircraft by digital radio message. I understand that SD gets its GPS information from either the built-in iPad GPS receiver or an external one such as Garmin GLO, not the Power Flarm GPS. Paul There are no Skydemon settings to alter but I am not certain about the Power Flarm config file settings to use. Derek Normally, if you have a Wi-Fi connection enabled on an iPad, it overrides the 3G functionality. copenhagenpools.com/contents//files/Dsc-Installer-Manual-Pc1616.pdf
I have been told that there is a way to configure the iPad in the Wi-Fi settings (something to do with manually configuring Subnet Mask addresses or something like that) so that it will receive Wi-Fi and 3G signals simultaneously. I'm hoping some Apple boffin or someone on the SD team could explain how this is done! Paul There isn't much documentation on the whole setup because there really isn't much to it. You connect your iPad to your Butterfly Connect's WiFi bubble (that part should be in the documentation associated with your Butterfly product) then just press the button in SkyDemon. After 10 minutes I gave up and reverted to the IPad internal GPS. This is a serious and distracting problem, that needs sorting, much better to use our eyes outside the cockpit. I have put up with this because I believed that the 2 companys involved would sort out this problem and make my flying safer. At the moment it is doing the reverse. If anyone has a fix, please let the rest of know. I will ask our contact at Air Avionics to comment on this. I also looked through all the online manuals for PowerFlarm on the PowerFlarm web page and there is no mention there of the 3 different levels. Either I'm missing the forest for the trees, or perhaps someone out there can help me out with where to look for more specifics on these settings. Many thanks, Gary Heaping assumption upon assumption - I would hazard a guess that these refer to the 3 levels of Flarm collision alert based on proximity in time ( point of potential conflict on the current predicted paths. If so the option to inactivate any level appears to be specific to the LX FlarmView display. I would never choose to have any level set to inactive and I am grateful for the frequent Flarm alerts in thermals that encourage my own and the other pilots' attention to look out. BTW - Does the FlarmView unit itself allow, as it appears from the manual, a set of inputs that activate the lower priority alerts and de-activates the highest priority. That would not be good.I have not had the chance to see if it is possible to de-activate the highest priority alert and keep the lower priority alert, but I will be taking a look at all these settings in more detail this weekend when I'm at the airport. Hopefully the weather will allow flight testing as well. Thanks for your sage advice, Gary Post by John Galloway Greetings Mr Emerson. Heaping assumption upon assumption - I would hazard a guess that these refer to the 3 levels of Flarm collision alert based on proximity in time ( point of potential conflict on the current predicted paths. That would not be good.I also looked through all the online manuals for PowerFlarm on the PowerFlarm web page and there is no mention there of the 3 different levels. Many thanks, Gary Gary, FLARM’s range is subject to the antenna installation in the aircraft but typically is 3 - 5 km, sufficient even for high speed gliding. The effective range can easily be verified with an online tool2. Alarms and the three alarm levels are issued depending on the forecasted time to impact, not a geometrical distance. The first alarm level is usually issued 19 - 25 seconds, the second one 14 - 18 seconds and the third one 6 - 8 seconds prior to the predicted impact and last as long as the alarm level is appropriate. Depending on the impact forecast, alarm levels might even go down or disappear. Alarms are highly selective, i.e. they are only issued when there is imminent danger. Richard www.craggyaero.com Apparently the manual was not updated to clarify this yet. So is it confirmed that those 3 settings are for different alert time threshold. If so, anyone knows what the butterfly display is set to (it is not configurable in the butterfly display). I would like to continue using the same alert level as butterfly is using as I found it adequate with minimal distraction. Also there is similar settings for audio, so I assume it is possible to set different level for audio alarm vs the collision alert screen (flarm watch)? Ramy If you set the low level, then you will get a notification every time a new flarm target is discovered by your flarm. If you set to the high or urgent level, then you will get warnings only when the algorithm detects a risk of collision. Medium gives you something in the middle. Dave Springford www.foxonecorp.com Strange that they didn't bother explaining something so important in the manual. Ramy This contradicts the earlier conclusion so need more input. Strange that they didn't bother explaining something so important in the manual. Ramy I'm not 100 positive, but I believe the traffic warnings are different from the collision warnings - and are handled differently by the various displays. A look through the data port spec should help - but may not be dispositive. 9B This means that there is less than 13 seconds to go to a predicted collision. The alarm level of the object is urgent, i.e., less than 8 seconds to a predicted collision. I believe butterfly is set to either 8 or 13 seconds, so I think I'll set mine to important and urgent and see how it performs. Ramy This contradicts the earlier conclusion so need more input. Copies of the FLARM Data Port Specification documentation can be found online. Hard to tell from experience as I usually don't try to measure the time from alert until collision;) Ramy I guess it is the 8 sec urgent level. Ramy I guess it is the 8 sec urgent level. Ramy In my experience the Butterfly display gave three levels of alert, which should be the default on any device. Or maybe you are speaking of something else.I guess it is the 8 sec urgent level. If you can't control it, it has to output all levels, just not something to worry about. Darryl If it is just for short beeps than it is less of a concern. Normally I would have tested it and find the answers by now but weather is not cooperating. Disappointing to hear about the audio performance, I was told it is the other way around and the flarmview is louder, which was one of the reasons I switched over. Ramy.
