To get them down to this price, Bushnell cheaped up on the case and carry strap. The case is cheap trash. I can read road signs with these that are easily over 300 yards from where I am standing and can identify a vehicle's make at around 500 yards and there is no wasted time trying to dial them in. Are they super clear at that distance, maybe not but what you see is crisp and focused. I have owned many pairs of binoculars and only choose auto focus types now. Even through light-polluted city skies, I felt like the entire universe was mine for the taking. I even got a neat view of the Andromeda galaxy with very minimal scanning. Though I've yet to try them out in the daytime, I'd highly recommend them for your budding astronomer. They're too good a deal to pass up.Bought these for my wife mainly for wildlife viewing. She'd used a pair previously on a wildlife viewing trip on a boat, looking at shoreline animals. For closer work like bird watching in the 40 yrs or less range, they will not focus. They'd probably be OK for whale watching or maybe casual astronomy.In general terms and at the retail price I would rate them 4 stars due to the poor eyecups (and and poor quality of the accessories). However the binoculars themselves are unique, well built and optically very good. The focus free feature does work and is extremely useful. These binoculars are therefore good for general purpose and ideal for stadium and sport events for which the magnification and field of view are perfect and the focus free very convenient. However these binoculars do not allow close distance vision the amount of which will depend on people eyes. People with perfect eyes will love them because their shortcomings don't really apply to them. People who wear glasses (as I do, being short sighted) will be almost as happy, but they would prefer better eyecups. To give an idea of the range I can see from about 20 m to about 150-200 m without glasses and from 45 m to infinity with my glasses. Optically they are great. These are made of plastic and do keep folding upwards, which is annoying when wearing glasses. Hopefully the will improve with use 2. Accessories The manual is generic and quite poor. The case is functional and made of impermeable plastic but does not scream quality. The strap is made of plastic, is very narrow and feels cheap. The lens covers detach and are also made of not exciting plastic. As a result they are easy to loose.

The front covers only fit when the eyecups are not folded back. There is however a microfibre lens cleaning cloth which is welcome. After trying them I am not sure how this is measured. In normal condition i.e. fixed binocular and pupil position I think that this figure is exaggerated albeit results are still very good. However these Bushnell allow for a remarkable movement of the pupils across the eyepiece more so than any of my binoculars and this does extend the FoV (albeit I think it is unnatural).
