This machine at the very least serves as an always ready electric kettle for hot water if I decide to make tea or use my French press, but also makes a very good pot of coffee if I don't want to take the time for the other methods. I read many reviews about the coffee grounds overflowing and that did happen to me when making a pot of 10 cups and even 8 cups. So, I READ THE MANUAL and it states that if you use fine ground coffee or have soft water (which we do) you will need a different valve. I installed mine and haven't had any more problems with overflowing. I would definitely recommend this coffee maker!You must read instructions before plugging in or you can ruin the machine and get that plastic smell that some complain about. I was nervous to spend this much on a simple coffee maker, but I'm so glad I did. A whole pot of coffee that tastes better than any other maker I've owned in two -three minutes. The water heater stays on all the time, and you simply fill the amount you want in the morning, which replaces the hot water that is now coffee. Just buy it, for you will be glad you did!!! Remember, read the instructions before plugging in!!!!From the very first time I filled it water kept coming out of the holes that drain Any water that didn’t make it to tank. I found that the plastic right under the fill area had a crack in it and was leaking water inside the coffee maker. Right underneath that is all the wiring for the hot plate. Had it not leaked on me right away it would have eventually shorted out the hot plate. Also one of the plastic post that holds a screw in was completely snapped off and this unit was sent out anyway. Bottom line is they know they are sending you broken defective products and don’t care because their name carries them to more sales. I’ll never buy another Bunn again. But the day this was delivered, was the same day he got a COMMERCIAL Bunn coffee maker (like the huge heavy duty ones you see in restaurants) so needless to say, I was upset at him for ruining the surprise.and I ended up keeping this one for myself. And to be honest.I'm now happy it didn't go to him. A full pot brews within a matter of minutes. The back tank keeps the water at the ideal coffee temperature.Brew speed is spectacular. Customer service is excellent, even outside warranty time. Originals lasted 10 years before the heating element came loose. Could have repaired, but felt like time to upgrade. Only negatives you will experience: The first time you close the lid before placing the carafe under the poor spout (thinking you're fast enough) you will make a mess. It's that fast. The other is you need to center the carafe under the spout. The heating pad is larger than the base of the carafe and will seat too far in, potentially making a mess. Place it all the way back, then pull toward you a quarter inch to half an inch. Outside that, this is exceptional.It is usually the best. I ordered a new one, and I absolutely cannot keep it in my kitchen. The machine emits a horrible, headache-inducing odor that I noticed immediately. The smell didn't go away. I ran numerous pots of water to see if it would go away. It didn't. I emptied it and set it up all over again. It didn't go away. Now it is sitting on the back porch in a box, and my kitchen is odor free. What a disappointment.We have used Bunns for years and have been extremely satisfied with all of them. We use Folgers Classic and Master Chef coffee from Walmart, which are pretty coarsely ground, probably. Made the first 2 pots this morning and had no spillover of the grounds, as others have reported. Used Bunn filters. I compared the water dispenser that lets water out into the grounds with the one from my old pot and they were identical.

This leads me to believe that people having overflow of grounds might be using very finely ground coffee. Not sure of this, though. Bunn told me on the phone that Walmart keeps their Bunn filters with the coffee pots, not the coffee, should you be looking for them there. The glass carafe that Bunn uses nowadays leaves much to be desired. The lid operates very awkwardly, in my opinion. Also, the carafe does not center up under the hole in the basket automatically. We kept our old carafe and it does center up automatically. These older carafes can be found on eBay at a fairly reasonable price. Look for a lid about 3 inches in diameter that is removable.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again I am a huge coffee drinker and appreciate the quickness of the BUN, which was fine. The problem is that if you fill the crafe (which is very small) to the 10 cup level, the filter over flows and you end up with a pot of grinds and a huge mess on your counter every morning. I tried various filters including Malleta which I prefer, even went and picked up a reusable filter and had the same results with all of them. Needless to say I'm back to using my old Cusinart. This fill tank lid lifts (instead of slides like NHS) which the lift design gives it a better design for triggering the water flow sensor. The filter basket slides in securely with this BXB design where as the NHS design was hard to slide in right and most of the time either did fall out or felt like it was going to fall out. I LOVE this coffee brewer and it is really sharp looking. I was nervous about the stainless steel and how fussy it would be for keeping clean. The stainless steel has a nice finish on it where it doesn't show finger prints and maintains easy. It makes coffee very fast as well as multiple pots back to back fast for large crowds. Very happy with this purchase. Make sure to buy the deeper coffee filters. You can get by with standard filters but the grounds splash onto the upper part of the filter basket so you need to rinse the grounds out of the basket between brews. After more than ten years of yeoman service--multiple pots daily from very hard tap water--our old BX finally died (warmer stopped working) a little over a year ago, so we sprung for a newer version, the NH, for its more modern look, never mind the higher price. It didn't, and we lost patience with it. This BX works just like our old one did. My old BUNN was wider and taller and I loved it for 7yrs. It was still brewing great coffee but had started to leak. My new BUNN is smaller, more narrow and also makes a beautiful cup of coffee, fits better in the space allowed and hopefully will last for 7 years. I've never had another brand last more than 3yrs.
